The Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Roads chaired by Hon. Paul Sebegoe conducted at an oversight visit at various projects on the upgrading of roads from gravel to surface in Dwarsberg; Molatedi and surrounding villages in Madikwe area in Moses Kotane Local Municipality.

The oversight visit is part of the oversight programme in Bojanala District aimed at strengthening oversight and public participation and promoting accountability and transparency in government. During the program, Members of the Provincial Legislature will interact with different provincial departments and Members of the Executive Council; Mayors; Accounting Officers; and members of the Municipal Public Accounts Committees. Different Portfolio Committees will conduct oversight visits to various projects in the district to check their status quo and challenges therein.

The projects include upgrade of Road D506, Z559 and Z539 from Dwarsberg to Mankaipaya for 17km and re-gravelling of 7km (Phase 1A) and upgrading of Road Z559 and D50 from Mankaipaya to Ramotlhajwe for 16,5km (Phase 1B). The two projects budgeted for R331,7 million and R263,9 million will commence on 17 August 2026 for 18 months. Contractors and consultants have been appointed to initiate both projects.

Hon. Sebegoe welcomed the projects, and informed the Department of Public Works and Roads that the 21km Molatedi to Botswana border gravel road should also be prioritized as it is a strategic economic corridor for both countries and an alternative other major roads in the district.
