The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and Transport Management chaired by Hon. Freddy Sonakile conducted oversight visits to Gaseitsewe Secondary School and Molebatsi Secondary School in the Bojanala District as part of the Legislature’s Oversight Week Programme on Tuesday, 04 August 2026.
The Committee raised serious concerns after finding overcrowded scholar transport, late arrivals, expired operating permits and allegations that payments may be processed for buses that are not fully operational. These conditions continue to place learners’ safety at risk and disrupt teaching and learning.
Hon. Freddy Sonakile emphasised that learner safety and accountability for public funds cannot be compromised. The Committee has directed the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management to submit a comprehensive report on bus allocations, contractor payment claims, transport routes and monitoring mechanisms to ensure scholar transport services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contractual obligations.
