The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Economic Development, Environment, Tourism, Agriculture & Rural Development held a meeting with the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism together with the North West Parks Board, North West Development Corporation and the North West Gambling Board.
The department and its entities presented their 1st quarter performance report for 2023/24 financial year; 1st and 2nd draft Annual Performance Plan 2024/25 financial year before the committee.
The committee cautioned and lambasted the department in its failure to pay creditors within 30 days, and required a written response on reasons for the late payments. Hon Lenkopane requested amongst others, reports on the process plan on filling of vacancies in the NWDC and other entities, report from the MEC on outstanding litigations that have been in existence for the 5 past years, a special briefing on the impact of Golden Leopards Resort (GLR) in the NW Parks Board and Tourism, report on theft of rhino horns in the province.
The committee also appreciated progress registered during an Oversight week that was conducted at Taung Hotel School,
“We are impressed with the plans and infrastructural development at Taung Hotel School and how activities will unfold once the project is complete” said Hon Lenkopane
