Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Roads, Community Safety and Transport Management led by Hon Mmoloki Cwaile held an oversight meeting with the Department of Public works and Roads over the 4th Quarter 2022/33 and 1st Quarter 2023/24 performance reports, and first and second draft Annual Performance Plan for the 2024/25 financial year.
MEC for the Department of Public Works and Roads, Gaoage Molapisi informed the Committee that there has been under expenditure on public works infrastructure and community-based programmes. “There has been poor performance on building of various schools due to poor performance of contractors. We have also under achieved on the number of bridges that were supposed to be repaired,” said MEC Molapisi.
Committee Chairperson, Hon. Mmoloki Cwaile said it is worrying that there has been poor performance on contractors who are supposed to ensure that the department’s client departments are assisted. “There is no consequence management on contract management and implementation of projects. The under expenditure is also concerning as it affects service delivery to the core,” said Hon. Cwaile.
