LEGISLATURE REJECTS FALSE REPORTS CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The North West Provincial Legislature notes with concern false reports circulating on social media platforms. These reports target the integrity of the Legislature, the Honourable Speaker and senior officials. No Member, official or employee of the Legislature has been arrested or questioned by the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) or by any other law enforcement agency.

The Legislature calls on members of the public, the media and colleagues to refrain from sharing or commenting on these reports, including on personal social media accounts. Each share extends the reach of false information and serves the aims of its authors. Journalists should verify claims with the Office of the Speaker before publication. The Legislature remains accountable to the people of North West. The Office of the Speaker is attending to the matter and is considering legal and other remedies.
