The visit forms part of the Legislature’s Oversight Week in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, aimed at monitoring the implementation of infrastructure projects and ensuring accountability and transparency in the delivery of public services. The Committee, led by the Chairperson Hon. Paul Sebego, received a briefing from the Department’s Acting Director: Road Infrastructure, Mr Tlotliso Mhlabe, on the upcoming road upgrading works, which will include new road surfaces, pedestrian walkways, road signage and markings, as well as the upgrading and replacement of existing bridge, culvert and drainage structures. The project is also expected to create employment opportunities for local communities, with a mandatory requirement for the contractor to subcontract at least 30% of the contract value to targeted local enterprises. The Committee emphasised that it will closely monitor the implementation of the projects to ensure that the work is delivered according to the approved scope and that local communities benefit through employment and subcontracting opportunities. The Committee remains committed to ensuring that infrastructure projects translate into better roads, safer communities, local economic opportunities and improved service delivery.
