NORTH WEST LEGISLATURE DELEGATION PARTICIPATES IN SADCOPAC CONFERENCE ON STRENGTHENING PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY

The North West Provincial Legislature delegation is participating in the 18th Annual Conference of the Southern Africa Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (SADCOPAC), currently underway in Mbabane, Eswatini, from 14 to 17 September 2026.

The conference is held under the theme, “Oversight into Action: Building an Integrated Accountability System for Anticipatory Governance and Systemic Resilience in the SADC Region.”
Representing the North West Provincial Legislature are Hon. Freddy Sonakile, Hon. Masego Kodisang and Hon. Mpho Khunou, who are participating in engagements aimed at strengthening public-sector accountability, oversight and the protection of public resources across the region.

Following the opening ceremony, delegates participated in a series of breakaway sessions addressing key challenges and opportunities relating to public financial management and institutional resilience. Discussions focused on Fiscal Resilience, Asset Recovery and the Prevention of Fiscal Hemorrhage; Oversight of Climate Finance, Digital Transformation and Crisis Response; as well as Institutional Resilience, Performance Oversight and Ecosystem Integration.

The North West delegation actively participated in these engagements, contributing to discussions on strengthening the effectiveness of Public Accounts Committees (PACs) in safeguarding public resources, promoting accountability and ensuring that public institutions are subject to effective and meaningful oversight.

The conference engagements concluded today with plenary presentations and discussions, during which recommendations arising from the various breakaway sessions were consolidated for consideration and adoption by the SADCOPAC Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to take place tomorrow.

The conference provides an important platform for Public Accounts Committees across the SADC region to share experiences, strengthen parliamentary oversight mechanisms and identify practical approaches to emerging challenges affecting public financial governance and institutional resilience.
