North West Legislature Staff and Community Partners Bring Hope to Boikhutso Hospice Through Mandela Day Initiative

21 July 2026 – The North West Provincial Legislature today reaffirmed its commitment to community upliftment by commemorating International Nelson Mandela Day through a meaningful community service initiative at Boikhutso Hospice in Lichtenburg in the Ditsobotla Local Municipality.
The Legislature’s Chief Whip, Hon. Motlalepula Rosho, was joined by the Executive Mayor of Ditsobotla Local Municipality, Cllr Molefe Morutse, councillors, Legislature staff, retired public servants from Boikhutso township, community volunteers and hospice staff in dedicating 67 minutes of service to improving the lives of hospice beneficiaries.
As part of the day’s activities, volunteers painted the exterior walls of the hospice using paint purchased by Legislature staff, planted vegetable seedlings, including cabbage, red onions and white onions, to support the hospice’s food garden, and undertook general maintenance and clean-up activities.
In the true spirit of Nelson Mandela Day, Legislature staff, together with generous members of the community and other good Samaritans, donated a JoJo water tank, food parcels, blankets, heaters, a hot water urn, toiletries, washing powder and other essential items. All the donations were either personally purchased and contributed by Legislature staff or donated by individuals and organisations who responded to the call to support the hospice.

Boikhutso Hospice representative, Ms Dikeledi Molaudi, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Rosho, Legislature staff, community volunteers and all those who contributed towards the initiative.
“We are sincerely grateful to Hon. Rosho, the Legislature staff, community volunteers, good Samaritans and everyone who contributed towards today’s initiative. Your kindness and generosity have brought hope and encouragement to our residents and staff”, Ms Molaudi said.
“We appeal to more individuals, businesses and organisations to follow this example by supporting hospices and other community-based care centres, as every act of kindness, no matter how small, makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve”, Ms Molaudi added.
Hon. Rosho said Nelson Mandela Day serves as a powerful reminder that every individual can make a meaningful difference through acts of kindness, compassion and service to others.

She encouraged citizens to embrace Madiba’s values beyond the annual commemoration by continuing to support vulnerable members of society and contributing to the development of their communities throughout the year.
The North West Provincial Legislature remains committed to fostering a culture of service and volunteerism while commending the selfless generosity displayed by Legislature staff, community volunteers and all donors whose contributions made the initiative a success.
