The Ad Hoc Committee established by the North West Provincial Legislature to
investigate allegations made by the Mayor of Naledi Local Municipality, Cllr Clifton J
Groep, against Member(s) of the Legislature has concluded its first round of witness
appearances.
All evidence before the Committee was led by Adv Pule Seleka SC, with Members of
the Committee also actively engaging with the testimonies throughout the proceedings.
Over the four-day sitting held from 24 to 27 November 2025 at the Sun City Resort, the Committee received testimony from the following witnesses:
Monday, 24 November 2025
• Cllr Clifton J Groep – Mayor of Naledi Local Municipality
Tuesday, 25 November & Wednesday, 26 November 2025
• Mr Thabo Sejake – Assistant Manager, Naledi Local Municipality
Wednesday, 26 November 2025
• Mr Mothusi Montwedi – Member of Parliament (EFF)
Thursday, 27 November 2025
• Mr Thabo Appolus – Former Director: Corporate Services, Naledi Local Municipality.

Following the adjournment of the initial round of hearings, the North West Provincial Legislature has approved the Committee’s request for an extension of its mandate until 31 March 2026. This extension will allow the Committee sufficient time to finalize outstanding witness appearances and complete its work comprehensively.
The Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee, Hon Nathan Oliphant, welcomed the extension and reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to conducting a thorough, transparent, and fair inquiry in line with the Legislature’s oversight mandate.
The Legislature will announce the new dates for the continuation of hearings in due course.
