The North West Provincial Legislature will host the People with Disability Sectoral Parliament on Friday, 28 November 2025, at the Kings’ Gate Hotel in Rustenburg, starting at 10h00. The event will be held under the theme: “Creating Strategic Multisectoral Partnerships for a Disability-Inclusive Society.”
The Sectoral Parliament aims to provide individuals and stakeholder groups across various sectors with a platform to engage on key issues affecting people with disabilities in the province. It serves as an essential mechanism to promote inclusive democracy by enabling communities to meaningfully contribute to public policy discourse and the strengthening of democratic governance.
The Speaker of the North West Legislature, Dr. Desbo Mohono, Deputy Speaker of the NWPL, Hon. Collen Maine will together with Tshirologo Disability Group, commemorate the occasion to highlight the importance of empowering persons marginalised by disability, including those with mild to moderate physical disabilities, visual and hearing impairments, and autism.
The Tshirologo Disability Group, a North West–based organisation, focuses on promoting inclusivity and integration of blind, deaf, and other disabled persons. Their work includes skills development, education, training, and improving access to modern technological support. The organisation’s philosophy centres on being passionate about people and delivering supportive solutions that help persons with disabilities overcome adversity and perform optimally in both the workplace and broader society.
Through collaboration between the Legislature, government, private sector, and development partners, the event aims to enhance visibility and encourage increased representation of persons with disabilities in the workplace. It also seeks to advance practical interventions that contribute to a more inclusive and supportive provincial environment.
Key discussions will focus on identifying opportunities to address existing gaps in ensuring that persons with disabilities become self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to socio-economic development in the province.
Key discussion areas include:
• Tshirologo Disability Group: Strengthening disability-inclusive skills pipelines in the North West Province
• Provincial Departments of Social Development and Education: Overview of opportunities for persons with disabilities
• Messages of support from political parties represented in the Legislature in line with Disability Awareness Month
The session will be attended by the Premier, Hon. Lazarus Mokgosi, Members of the Executive Council, SETAs, Provincial Disability Forum members, Provincial Office – Disability Rights, the Human Rights Commission, and representatives from mining houses
