The North West Provincial Legislature (NWPL) successfully celebrated National Literacy and Heritage Day on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 at the NWPL Auditorium.

The event highlighted the importance of addressing literacy challenges within communities while encouraging a culture of knowledge-sharing and reading. Guided by the 2025 International Literacy Day theme, “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era”, the programme emphasized the growing need to strengthen digital skills alongside traditional reading and writing. It also encouraged participants to rethink what it means to be literate in a world increasingly shaped by digital innovation.

In addition to literacy awareness, the event also embraced the spirit of Heritage Day. Staff members showcased and celebrated their diverse cultural heritage through creative expressions such as music, food, traditional attire, and performances. This aligned with the 2025 Heritage Day theme, “Reimagine Our Heritage Institutions for a New Era”, which underlined the role of heritage as a foundation for building an inclusive and forward-looking society.

The combination of the two significant observances not only promoted inclusivity but also reminded communities of the importance of preserving heritage while adapting to the opportunities of the digital era.
