The North West Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and Transport Management, chaired by Hon. Freddy Sonakile, has instructed the Department to ensure the replacement of two broken-down scholar transport buses at Monamaladi Primary School within 24 hours, following serious failures uncovered during an oversight visit.
The Committee found that only one of the three contracted buses was operational, transporting more than 102 learners under reportedly overloaded conditions and resulting in late arrivals at school. One bus has reportedly been out of service for more than three months, while another recently broke down.
The Committee has further demanded a comprehensive report detailing payments made to the service provider, reasons for the prolonged disruption and measures taken to address non-performance. “Public funds cannot continue flowing to service providers while learners are left stranded. Contracts must be honoured, and failure to deliver must have consequences”, said Hon Sonakile
The Committee continues its oversight visits across the Ngaka Modiri District, determined to ensure that scholar transport services are delivered as contracted and that learners’ safety and access to education are not compromised.
