The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs led by Chief Whip of the Legislature, Hon. Motlalepula Rosho conducted an oversight at Ga Maloka/Gaanalagte villages unblocked housing projects in Tswaing Local Municipality.

The visit is part of the oversight programme in Ngaka Modiri Molema District aimed at strengthening oversight and public participation and promoting accountability and transparency in government. During the program, Members of the Provincial Legislature will interact with different provincial departments and Members of the Executive Council; Mayors; Accounting Officers; and members of the Municipal Public Accounts Committees. Different Portfolio Committees will conduct oversight visits to various projects in the district to check their status quo and challenges therein.

Ga Maloka/Gaanalagte Villages Unblocked Housing Project
The 400 housing units project commenced in October 2019 where Sanapo Project Development was appointed at an amount of R69,4million. The H.O.D for Department of Human Settlements, Ms. Kgomotso Mahlobo informed the Committee that during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, the project experienced challenges due to the death of the company director. “After prolonged administrative and estate challenges, the contract commenced in 2022 and was extended to 31 December 2026 where there is progress with 305 completed units at 70 percent rate. The remaining 95 units are on various stages from foundations, wall plates, roof to VIP toilets. We have confidence that the contractor will finish on time she has been implementing it at a faster pace,” said Ms. Mahlobo.

Hon. Rosho said the Committee is impressed at the performance of the contractor. “We are confident that this contract will be completed in due course as the municipality and all the relevant stakeholders involved are regularly consulted,” she said.
