HON SPEAKER MOTSUMI ATTENDS 77TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA.

The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Ntsetsao Viola Motsumi, today attended the 77th Anniversary reception of the founding of the People’s Republic of China at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Arcadia, Pretoria, hosted by H.E. Ambassador Wu Peng. Speaking on the sidelines of the reception, Speaker Motsumi noted that South Africa’s relationship with the People’s Republic has travelled a considerable diplomatic distance since the establishment of formal relations in 1998, evolving into an All-Round Strategic Cooperative Partnership grounded in mutual respect, development and cooperation across political, economic and social spheres. “For the North West, this relationship carries a particular developmental significance. The province’s future must be connected not only to domestic opportunities, but also to the wider currents of investment, trade, industrialisation, skills development, technology and infrastructure that shape the Global South,” said Speaker Motsumi. “As the province seeks to deepen its contribution to South Africa’s economic development, stronger provincial and international partnerships can help open pathways for cooperation that ultimately find expression in the lives and livelihoods of communities.” Speaker Motsumi added that today’s occasion carries significance beyond the ceremonial, as it is part of the continuing work of building bridges between peoples, institutions and economies, and of translating diplomatic friendship into practical possibilities for development.
