SPEAKER AND DEPUTY SPEAKER MEET NWPL MANAGEMENT AND STRENGTHEN PLOs FORUM ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon Ntsetsao Viola Motsumi, together with the Deputy Speaker, Hon Mokone Collen Maine, today met with the management of the North West Provincial Legislature.

The purpose of the meeting was to outline and address challenges facing the institution, including vacancies, oversight reports, assets management, and pending cases. The Speaker welcomed all branches and received comprehensive updates regarding the performance of each branch within the Legislature. In addition, the Presiding Officers engaged on the strengthening of the Party Liaison Officers (PLOs) Forum and its organizational structure. The meeting resolved to strengthen coordination between the Legislature and political parties to improve organizational effectiveness.

Key focus areas for strengthening the PLOs Forum include alignment to the Legislature’s strategic plan, clear Terms of Reference, regular structured meetings, capacity building on Rules and procedures, and improved communication.

One of the key commitments emphasized by the Speaker was the need for the Legislature to strengthen its core mandates of oversight, constituency work and law-making. She further emphasized that the Security and Public Participation units must fully execute their roles in supporting the work of the Legislature. The meeting also reflected on the role of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and the importance of aligning provincial programmes with national imperatives.
