MAHIKENG —The North West Provincial Legislature’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) has elected Hon. Motlalepula Rosho as its new Chairperson. The election was presided over by the Secretary of the Legislature, Adv. Innocent Netshitumbu.

Hon. Rosho’s election follows a review of the African National Congress (ANC) committee membership in accordance with Rule 152 of the Standing Rules of the North West Provincial Legislature. The revised committee membership was published in the Provincial Gazette by the Speaker of the Legislature on 6 August 2026.

In her acceptance speech, Hon. Rosho emphasised that her election as Chairperson does not diminish the collective responsibility of the committee, stressing the importance of collaboration among all members in fulfilling SCOPA’s mandate.

“I accept this responsibility with a clear understanding that SCOPA’s work is a collective responsibility. We must work together across political party lines, guided by our shared commitment to serving the people of the North West and ensuring that public resources are used responsibly and effectively.”

Hon. Rosho further committed to strengthening the committee’s oversight role and ensuring that the Executive is held accountable for the use of public resources. She emphasised that the principle of value for money must translate into tangible and meaningful benefits for communities across the province.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that accountability is not merely a principle, but something that our communities can see and experience through improved service delivery. We will continue to exercise robust oversight and ensure that government delivers quality, effective services that make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people of the North West,” she said.

The new Chairperson reaffirmed her commitment to working collaboratively with all committee members to ensure that SCOPA continues to fulfil its constitutional oversight responsibilities.

The committee will continue to focus on strengthening accountability, promoting responsible management of public finances and ensuring that government programmes and services deliver value and tangible outcomes for the people of the North West.
