The North West Provincial Legislature Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts chaired by Hon. Smuts Matshe will hold public hearings with Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District, JB Marks, Maquassi, Matlosana and Ditsobotla Local municipalities on the 2024/25 audit reports. Amongst matters of emphasis is the increasing unauthorised expenditure of R5,5 billion at Matlosana and R913 million at JB Marks, and irregular expenditure of R3,3 billion and R3,9 billion respectively. Both municipalities also incurred fruitless and wasteful expenditure of R536, 9 million and R122,8 million.
Ditsobotla local municipality incurred irregular expenditure of R341,3 million from prior years and fruitless and wasteful expenditure of R41,1 million on the financial year under review. Information on the unauthorised expenditure was omitted from the audit report as it was impractical for auditors to acquire it due to various challenges.
