The North West Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Health and Social Development, chaired by Hon. Karabo Magagane, will convene a meeting with the Department of Health to obtain clarity on tuberculosis (TB) awareness and management interventions across the province.

The Committee will consider comprehensive reports focusing on TB awareness initiatives, the status of patients who have defaulted on treatment, cases lost to follow-up, progress in combating drug-resistant TB, and recent TB quality improvement updates.

The meeting will further assess the strategy relating to the Former Mine Workers Programme, including healthcare access and compensation-related interventions. In addition, the Committee will review circumcision programmes and their impact on HIV prevention and management, including statistical trends and the role of initiation schools. Lastly, the Department will present its mitigation strategy to address the implications of the reduction in the USA President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR) funding and its impact on provincial health programmes.
