On Friday, 22 November 2024, the North West Provincial Legislature hosted the Men’s Health Sectoral Parliament under the theme: “Deepening Accountability amongst Men and Boys to respond decisively to South Africa’s Health and Socio-economic challenges,’’ at Manthe Community Hall in Greater Taung Local Municipality.
The objective of the sectoral parliament was to strengthen oversight and accountability on issues affecting men and boys’ health; to promote and mobilize support for the dignity and rights of men and boys; to provide a platform for information exchange and experience sharing and interaction between parliamentarians, representatives of civil society and partners in terms of health and wellness of men and boys. Furthermore, the event recognized the important role of all stakeholders including civil society, government departments, community organizations and parliamentarians to strategize on collaboration of opportunities that would mitigate against the impact of Gender Based Violence and Feminism.
Topics that were discussed at the event were on:
· Status of the NW Province in Addressing HIV Prevention.
· Matters addressing Mental Issues and Creating Support for Men and Boys.
· Men and Boys Perspective on Measures to Address and Prevent Gender Based Violence and Feminine.
