Portfolio Committee on Education, Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation held an oversight meeting with the Department of Education over the 2024/25 Second Quarter Performance Report and 2025/26 First Draft Annual Performance Report.
Acting Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Karabo Magagane said the Committee is impressed with the overall performance of the department which include 94 percent on payment of service providers and spending on infrastructure projects. “The department should prioritise issue of provision of sanitary towels to learners in various schools which was not achieved on the quarter under review but planned for implementation towards the middle of the third quarter. Delivery of ICT equipment such as the 50 tablets to schools as well as necessary equipment at Early Childhood Development centers should be implemented.
“We also commend the department and we hope that there will be steady progress on implementation of various targets in the following quarters including the support to public ordinary schools and special schools which should be intensified,” said Hon. Magagane.
