North West Legislature Elects New Chairpersons of Portfolio and Select Committees

The North West Provincial Legislature convened meetings where Chairpersons of Portfolio and Select Committees were elected. The chairpersons were elected in terms of Rule 55 of the Standing Rules of the North West Provincial Legislature 9th Edition. In terms of Rule 155 (1), the Secretary to the Legislature must call a meeting of the Committee within five (5) working days after the names of the Members of the Committee have been announced.

The following Committee Chairpersons have been elected in various Portfolio Committees;

Portfolio Committee on Premier and Finance: Hon. Virginia Tlhapi
Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs: Hon. Kgalalelo Makgokgowa
Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts: Hon. Smuts Matshe
Portfolio Committee on Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism: Hon. Mpho Khunou.
Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development: Hon. Sipho Dial
Portfolio Committee on Health and Social Development: Hon. Karabo Magagane
Portfolio Committee on Education, Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation: Hon. Tina Priscilla Williams
Portfolio Committee on Public Works, Roads: Hon. Paul Sebegoe
Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and Transport Management: Hon. Freddy Sonakile
Standing Committee on Oversight of the North West Provincial Legislature: Hon. Michael Groenewald
Standing Committee on Legislative Review and Implementation of Resolutions of the House: Hon. Tebogo Modise

Furthermore, Rule 55 (1) stipulates that a meeting of the committee may be called in terms of sub-rule (1) (a) by the Chairperson of the Committee; or (b) by resolution of the Legislature.
