This forms part of the Legislature’s oversight week in various municipalities under the Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality. The program is aimed at strengthening oversight and public participation and to promote accountability and transparency in government.
During the program, Members of the Provincial Legislature interact with different provincial departments and their MECs; Mayors; Accounting Officers; and members of the Municipal Public Accounts Committees.
Dipudi and Bray Water Supply Projects.
Putti Trading was appointed as a contractor for both water supply projects. Dipudi Water supply project commenced on 11 March 2022 and was valued at R26.7 million and is currently 99 percent complete at R26 million. The project entailed borehole drilling and testing; construction of 150 kiloliter elevated steel tank; pumping mains; internal reticulation; communal standpipes; chlorination system and new borehole equipping. Some of the project challenges include delayed Eskom new supply to boreholes and contract who currently has cashflow problems to complete minor items such as fencing and road crossings.
Bray Water Supply Project was valued at R27,5 million and is also at 99 percent completion. It also involved the construction of a 750-kiloliter steel tank and had similar works with Dipudi Water supply and also had challenges of Eskom new supply to boreholes.
The municipality could not provide a detailed report on the renovations at Kagisano Molopo Municipal Building and was requested to submit before Friday, 1 September 2023.
Provincial Public Accounts Committee Chairperson, Hon. Job Dliso said although the Committee was impressed with both projects, Kagisano Molopo Local and Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipalities should ensure that both projects are urgently completed as stipulated on the project scope. “We want to see these minor delaying challenges be eliminated because our people must get water everyday unlike now where they get it twice a week due to these problems.
Both municipalities should also submit a comprehensive report on when will the project be completed and there is 100 percent water supply,” said Hon. Dliso.
The oversight visits continue on Wednesday, 30 August 2023 at Lekwa Teemane Local Municipality where the Committee will visit the construction of Paving of Mosiwa Street in Christiana and Boitumelong Taxi Rank in Bloemhof.
